In this world of challenge, competition, employment crisis, and unsecured job, it’s more than ever important for everyone, individuals and companies, to work on developing trustful and solid connections.

As a professional relationship development expert, part of my job is to share with you places of influences that can help you find the right people and right organizations to connect with. Then I’d take my rental car and drive to that place, introduce myself to the restaurant owner or manager, and I would tell him what I was going to do here and for how long, that I was going to come and breakfast at his restaurant every day, that he’s been recommended to me as the place to go for the best breakfast, and if he hear of anyone in need of my product then he shouldn’t hesitate to refer me.
    Local restaurant owners are the deal. They know what’s going on, they know who is who and who does what, and they know where to go for what you need. They are usually likable, people love them, tell them about their lives, and appreciate them. They can be a great source of info and their restaurant a tremendous pace of network if you go there in a regular basis.
  5. The Journalists:
    Who wouldn’t like to know a journalist? Thanks to those media professionals, the right exposure can make a company double its sales, or turn a nobody into a somebody. The good thing is that they are constantly looking for a good story. However, apy attention to those guys. As much as they can put you on the top, they can be also the reason behind your decline.
  6. The Public Relations people:
    The PR people and media can hate each other but at the end of the day, their common necessity brings them together. PR people needs media to cover their client and protect the image of their company, and medias need stories to write on.

How To Keep a Clean Facebook Image

I was talking with my fiancee yesterday and she was sharing a story of one of her friends whose image has diminished because of her activities and the quality of status updates she puts on her Facebook page. After the sharing, we then realized the impact Facebook can have in people’s lives when it comes to image and reputation. Yes, Facebook is great at helping people connect with friends, friends of friends, and even unknown persons. Yes , Facebook allows to share with your network just about anything you feel like posting. Yet, all that you do on facebook can either lift you up and serve you social and professional interest, or it can nail you down and destroy your image, your person, and all that you represent. Can you tell it’s important to keep a clean Facebook image? This post is about to tell you how to do it.

Personally, I love Facebook. I use Facebook to connect with people; I use Facebook to enlarge my network, to expose my work, beliefs, and ideas; I use Facebook for the applications it has; but also, I use Facebook to learn about others from my network. Facebook is definitely like a spying room where you cn go to see what people from your network re up to and that ‘s why it’s a must to follow these following rules to keep a clean and respectable image.

  1. Watch your vocabulary – No need to mention that Facebook is open to all ages and therefore what you write matters. Moreover, no matter your professional situation whether you are student, unemployed, doctor, salesperson, assistant or other, your next employer, partner, client, or even significant other may be one of your connection and therefore can read you. So when you post on Facebook, make sure your vocabulary do not require viewer discretion. Even if you have to remain low-key, and reflect an easy-going attitude that matches with the online social environment, you need to understand your writings and vocabulary used tell a lot about the kind of person you are and the level of education you can have.
  2. Watch out the links you share – A good friend of mine the other day shared a link about child abuse and was saying that there is nothing bad about it. That link plus the comment he did was pretty shocking and I did ask myself lot of questions abotu the kind of person and parent this friend can be. I sure will not want my kids to go and stay at his place without me being around, just like I’d probably not invite him to events where kids will be around. I might be wrong about him but the truth is that because of the link and the comment he made the image I have of him has been negatively affected.
  3. Watch out the groups you join – What happens usually when someone befriends you on Facebook is that the person first goes to your wall to read your recent activities and then goes to your info page to find out more about the schools you attended, the career you embraced, your work place, and at the end the groups you joined on Facebook. By joining a group, you show that you believe in what that group represents and believes. So, be careful when accepting a group invitation.
  4. Watch out the pictures of you – The pictures tell about your environment, they tell about who your friends are, they tell about what you do, they tell about what you like. People on Facebook always browse other people’s pictures and from those pictures they try to see the kind of person you become since the last time you met each other. So don’t go to Facebook and upload pictures of you looking depressed with a bottle of wine on the table of the under rated bar of low neighborhood. I suggest you always put pictures that will lift you up and sell a better image of you that will invite people to put a nice comment. You don;t have to be fake, just forgive yourself for the bad pictures taken at a bad moment and praise yourself for the ones that give you respect.
  5. Watch out people comments about you or your posts – The good thing with blogs is that you can decide whether or not you want people to leave a comment to your post. If you want great, if not then you disable the option. Facebook is a little bit different on that. You might not allow people to write on your wall, however, when you share a thought, a link, or comment on someone’s else wall, people can definitely also leave a comment. Now, some people are out there just to put comment that will disgrace and diminish others. Don’t let them do that to your image. If someone leaves a comment that diminishes you and disgrace your image, do not hesitate to remove the comment. Facebook offers that options that you can remove and even report comments that you dislike. So when necessary, use that option.

Your image is your brand and it follows you everywhere you go, years after years and later is associated to the people who relate to you. That’s why it’s so important to be really careful about the image you reflect and to keep it clean in any online social network site as well as any places you go.

Transform Your Image at Work

Some people were born with the golden spoon and fortunately never had to work truly hard to transform their image. For the majority however, it’s not the case. One has to work hard on his job and also on the image he/she reflects. It can be at work, at home, with friends. How do you manage your reputation? What image do people of you? How to transform your image? Folks, this is Max, your Relationship Strategist, and this post is about Reputation Management.

William Arruda, the Personal branding guru, founder and President of Reach Personal Branding said: “What makes you unique makes you successful.” Your personal branding or the image people have of you is more important today than it’s been in the past. It’s the email you always read because of who it’s from. It’s employee who always gets the cool projects. It’s phone call you always answer because of who is calling.

Transforming your image is pretty much aligning who you are, what you do, how you do it, and becoming relentlessly focused on what you do that adds value. Here are three steps that will help you get on the road of transforming your image and leave your mark in everything you do, wherever you go, whoever you deal with.

  1. Create a Personal Branding Message
    The question you need to ask yourself is what do people think when they see or read your name. It’s pretty much like a product. What do you think when I say Google? As many other people, the first thing tat came to your mind is the that it’s the best online search engine. In other words, if you want to search for something online, what you think first of is Google. What would you think if I say Obama? You will probably say: “the First African-American in the USA” or “Yes We Can”.
    By developing a Personal Branding Message you are positioning yourself in the mind of people. Like any best brand, your message must be distinct, and kept short and simple. It calls for you to identify your uniqueness and how you can put that uniqueness to work. It’s not much about your title but about your mission.
    What you want people to think when they hear or read your name is exactly what you want to develop as an image.  People treat you and see you just the way you present yourself.
  2. Value Your Brand
    Now that your personal branding message has been developed and is now clear and distinct, you now need to value your brand. Valuing your brand is showing off what people have to gain from bing in touch with you. How do you add value to your network? How is your uniqueness relevant in helping anyone or anything grow? What can I expect when picking up your phone calls or opening an email from you?
    When valuing your brand, you also want to look at your style because style matters. Whether you like it or not, clothing, letterheads, hairstyles, business cards, office space, and conversational style, they make a big deal when it comes to your image. So make sure to take it in consideration. No matter how you want to be perceived, understand there are main characteristics in all fields of work. If you work in finance or business in general, we expect you to be well suited and somehow to reflect wealth. If you are an auto-mechanic, well expect you be cover with oil and dirt because the more of that you have, the more we believe in you be an expert. If you are a cook, we expect to you to be clean, wearing gloves and holding rags. Take an honest look at how you present yourself. Ask others how they see you. How do you wish to be seen?
  3. Expose Your Brand
    No one else but you is in charge. You need to take action to broadcast yourself to be seen the way you want to be seen. As you start, never ask for more pay until after you’ve been doing the job successfully. It might take time until you get positioned in people’s mind the way you just reinvented your image but once you did your homework and people bought your new image then it’s all good.
    Also, nothing stops you from developing and exposing your brand online. Use Facebook, Linkedin, hi5, Myspace….Send e-mails filled with creative ideas to your CEO. Design your own Me, Inc. brochure. Just like an expert said, the world is your stage. Your message is your “play.” The character you portray is your brand. Look the part; live the part.
